Here you find essential travel hints if you travel to Geneva by car, train, or plane. You may also obtain visa information.

By car: Check the Michelin Guide or the Mappy website for driving directions.

Geneva is a small city with many cars, so parking space is a problem. Some of our hotels offer parking facilities.

If you wish to rent a car to visit other parts of Switzerland after the conference, cars can be rented at the airport, train station and hotels. A national driving licence and credit card are required and drivers must be at least 21 years old.

By train: Geneva is well situated on the European train network, and trains are fast, clean and reliable. The high-speed train from Paris (TGV), for example, gets you to Geneva in about three and a half hours. Connections from Zürich Airport takes also about three hours. For connections check the SwissRail site.

By plane: Please, note that many events take place in Geneva during the conference period, so reserve your flights early.

Geneva International Airport (Cointrin) is located about 20 minutes by car or bus from the city center. There are many international connections, and there is a regular plane-shuttle service from Zürich Airport (flight time about 35 minutes).

There are also several low-cost carriers, such as Easy Jet and Virgin-Express, that fly directly into Geneva from various European cities. Other airlines flying directly to Geneva can be found here.

Visa: Please, note that Switzerland is not part of the EU, and some conference participants may require visas. This may apply in particular to non-EU citizens working in the EU. The list of countries requiring a visa can be found here. If you participate in the CERN excursion, you need a multiple entry visa. If you are in doubt, contact the Swiss Embassy in your country of residence. Should you need an invitation letter, contact Kuoni during registration.
